Paris Saint-Germain could be sanctioned by UEFA over player sales to Qatar, according to French media.
The Parisians endured a tumultuous summer with most headlines, understandably, focused on Kylian Mbappe and his brief exile from the first-team squad after it was revealed that he would not trigger his contract extension.
Yet beyond Mbappe, PSG were very busy indeed in overhauling their roster. Superstars Neymar and Lionel Messi departed, while the likes of Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani, and a whole host of other players, were brought in. All told, the perennial Ligue 1 champions splashed some €350 million on signings in the summer – not including the €80m that will be paid next year when Ramos joins permanently.

However, they also raked in €193m from sales, €90m of which came from Saudi Arabia for Neymar. The rest was mostly accrued from departures to Qatar and PSG could now be in hot water over those deals.
PSG to be sanctioned?
That’s because, well, PSG are owned by Qatar. LaLiga president Javier Tebas, a vocal critic of PSG, said in the wake of them selling three high-profile players to the Gulf State: “Do they take us for idiots? We can do that too, find a satellite country that buys players from us to make big profits and then buy all the players we want. Is this the system we want? I don’t think so.”
According to L’Equipe, UEFA will investigate the deals and if it is found that this was essentially Qatar doing business with itself in a bid to help PSG balance the books amid a summer of lavish spending, then the French giants could be sanctioned with one possible punishment being that they will not be allowed to include the money generated from these deals in their accounts.
